Microsoft was launching a new product called Lync which combines hardware with chat software for high-end conferencing and top level management. They reached out to us wanting to distribute this product to C-level decision makers during a launch event and clearly challenging us to design a pack that would match the brilliance of the product.
Lync is all about connecting people wirelessly, and so that was our brief. We experimented with packaging, magnets and physics in our prototyping workshop space. The result was a sleek, Microsoft branded box. Upon opening, two wires appear suspended in mid-air thanks to the use of floating magnets, translating visually the functional purpose of the newly launched product.
The box was so impactful and beautiful that recipients kept it even after they took out the product. The buzz created by this activation prompted Microsoft to commission us for key work for the entire NEPA region.
